“Adulting” is no small feat — both for a twenty-something navigating the real world for the first time, and for the family and friends helping those entering the real world do so as painlessly and seamlessly as possible.
Between finding a job and finding an apartment (that you can afford), a lot can slip through the cracks, and come moving day you may not be as prepared as you thought… so here is our first apartment checklist, curated by experts who have done the homework to find the best products and services to help you start out successfully!
One tip for the moving process: be sure to pack with care! Since you’re just starting out, you probably won’t have a ton of fragile stuff to pack for your move, but just to cover the base, things break in transit. This means that any plates, glasses, lamps, or other fragile items need to be protected for the journey (even if it’s just down the block). We all have those friends who unpacked their dishes to find them all broken. Every. Single. One. You don’t want to be those friends. Use other household items you’re moving to protect the more fragile items (think towels, sheets, blankets, etc…), that way you’re packing and protecting at the same time!
Utilities aren’t optional: You need to ensure that when you move in, you can turn on the lights, heat, water, and wifi (if you need it right away). These are all good things to set up in advance or schedule for moving day.
